In this presentation, our DAAD guest lecturers Dr Emma Kostiainen and Dr Matti Rautiainen from the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) introduce the Keljonkangas Comprehensive School in Jyväskylä, which started its operations in August 2021. In addition to classrooms for students in grades 5 to 9, the building also houses the Keljonkangas Library and a new youth space for the area. The design of the school building is based on co-teaching and team-teaching approaches. The school is exceptional in many ways. Its story began six years ago, when the educational director of Jyväskylä City decided to build a school for the future and contributed to its concept. Schools’ teachers played a central role in the participatory planning process. The presenters Emma Kostiainen and Matti Rautiainen from the University of Jyväskylä have been co-constructing first the school building and later the operational culture in the school since 2018.

We cordially invite all Heidelberg teacher education students, HEI lecturers and school teachers and everyone else interested in school and teaching development, international cooperation and exchange to participate and join us for this guest lecture.
